Hello Sorachi sensei, in volume 19, there was this compilation of an interview with Oonishi san, speaking about Gintama you said you intented to draw the “Ninja arc”, “The great Kabuki cho war arc” “A story about Otose’s past” “the Sakamoto and Mutsu’s arc” and “Kagura’s brother arc”. How much time really pass since you have only a conceptual idea of the story and the time you decide to draw it? This is a thing that I really want to know before the end!

Thanks for buying Gintama volume 66. To be honest I totally forgot about all that, but looking back I have to say that I have been quite diligent to esecute all the promised episodes. By the way the story about Otose’s past,was about granny’s stupid son coming back to Kabuki cho and rising a riot,but thinking about it, it was better for her not having kids, so i changed the story with her husband and combined it with the arc about Kabuki cho great war. And the ninja’s arc!! I only had some ideas about Zenzou and Sacchan here and there that then I showed in a different way and then smashed them all in a super serious arc “the shogun assasination” one. To tell the truth the one supposed to die was Zenzou, and Sacchan is some way had to endure it all and keep to stay alive. Thinking about the Shogun assasination arc, I understood that it was impossible to turn back to the old Gintama way before ending thinking about it , so i started to push things in a proper way. Starting this volume the final arc will begin, but inside me the final arc was already decided when i started to draw the Shogun assasination arc.

Hello Sorachi sensei, there is something that worries me, so I wrote you this letter. When Gintama started you said that Kamui cutting off Umibozu’s arm was part of an old Yato tradition about killing the own parents. But in the volume 65 the scene wasn’t nothing like that, why?

Answer

Kamui didn’t declated “I am gonna kill my parents!” but he still went on and tried to do it, So there is no difference. Umibozu telling this sad story wasn’t really detailed ,cause he is not such person. All the mistakes made by his son, were all caused by their own mistakes, that were part of the yato’s old customs, so he just thrown a kill the parents one.

Answer

I actually watched Yoshihiko cause it was a work of Fukuda director with Jirou Saito in it. So I watched it, And this time Jirous san will be in the live action too, but it just looks like some big joke

I am not good to clap my hands to other people success, I am the kind of guy to think Fujika make a mistake or please fall! Even now I still wish that, but then if I am the one to make a mistake I babble something like “But look, i really like it that way…”

All the things about Utsuro and the altana is so hard to get. I am a little supid so could you explain it to me please? I really don’t get it.

Answer

The Altana is the energy of planets, the one that is on earth is called the “Dragon’s vein” and this energy flows inside planets ‘ grounds like a stream. Other that than, the energy goes out through holes, called “dragon’s holes”. similar to the fengshui, the lands upon those holes prospered and a lot of mansions and such were built. In the Gintama’s world those places were of course blessed with the grace of prosperity thanks the Altana’s energy. But here, humans that obtained that strong energy, were called mutants, and even if rare they started to come to existence. The immortal Utsuro was one of them. But that caused Utsuro to be persecuted by the others around him, cause it didn’t matter how many times they tried to kill him he would never die. That created contrasted feelings in him, with time this became pain, and in order to escape from this pain he created various personalities inside him. And he locked his true self inside his heart. So the ones that humans kept to make suffer wasn’t Utsuro but different personalities. Then he started to massacre humans for revenge. But that cause an other personality to come to live in order to stop those ones, and that was Gintoki and the other’s teacher Yoshida Shoyo, but even as Yoshida Shoyo he was still seen as an outcast from humans, so he was fated to suffer, because of all this pain, Utsuro that was locked deep inside his heart began to kill all the other personalities and Shoyo, so that this endless pain could be over. But to end himself he has to put an end to the earth, and to do this he has to provoke a huge war.

Hello sensei. I have a question for you, I don’t get quite well what relations there is between the Tendoshuu and the liberation army. I have a bad inderstanding, so could you explain it to me in a easy way?

Answer

First of all what is called Tendoshu is an organizzation that has the duty to preserve the altana. In short they hold in their hands the monopoly of all planet’s energy (the altana). They quite control everyone’s lives. It’s like with things like oil and natural gas, that are needed to support everyones live styles, and only one part of the organizzation holds them. That’s why in a situation where is not clear who the leader is in the Tendoshu, Utsuro was able to use as he liked the Altana, and make it gone out of control. When things on planets went wrong people didn’t know the real reasons and they blamed the Tendoshuu that with their leadership had no right to act as they wanted. So they created an organization to snatch the Altana from Tendoshuu’s hands. So , having the support of all the universe, other countries began to join them, creating a military alliance called the Altana liberation army. They started search here and there for Tendoshuu and tear apart their power, in the end being the Earth, the Tendoshu’s stronghold they started to attack it.

I imagined the day for this customer to be back and say something like” Oh you already at season 4! I’m so happy thanks!” But since that day I never saw this customer back, Sorachi sensei, if he does, what i can do?

Sorachi sensei is really glad for all the troubles you took for him. Thanks for spreading the verb of Gintama. But to be honest, even without using your rental store, introducing Gintama at first is always a good thing to do, but i think that say things like “you already at season 4?” is not so good. I mean what if with Gintama this customer rents a set of “Others wives dirty cucumber garden ”? Let’s assume he already rented this he would be confused “you already at season 4?” he could think at something like” Eh? this clerk remember all the things I rent? he realized that after season 1 and 2 I wanted more cucumbers and couldn’t stop after season 3? Not to mention Gintama was only a cover up and that’s why i rented it, he knows my real intentions? “ So I think even being in a good faith, is better to pretend to not remember them, but at the same time grasping their preferencies and weakness. If the Shinsengumi’s uniform ornamets are white, why in the anime are yellow?

Answer

The one you say is yellow in the anime is actually golden, as for my side, that one is not white but silver. That’s because in anime colours have to be more of an impact and so they choose that one, while in the manga there’s nothing like that. But being samurai, maybe golden seems way too flashy. But that doesn’t mean that i have something against it. And generally they put colours as they like. So here and there if you look between anime and manga there are some colours that don’t match

Sensei, Takasugi’s poetry, the one under the rain of chapter 573, was so hard to get. What the hell he was trying to say? He was probaly still half asleep?

Being Takasugi–kun a poetic guy, let’s try to explain his poetry, that is a very snsitive matter for him.

“ Even now I find myself staring up at a sky on the verge of tears. It seems like it could very well fall from on high right upon me. Hazy memories clamor within me. Am I the first drop of rain falling from an overcast sky? Or is it…Or the final drop being wiped away after crying? I feel as if…It is both and neither at the same time. The one thing…I am sure of, Is that I’m tired…Of the rain.”

Having waken up from a long coma,Takasugi is starting to recollect what kind of person he was, being fallen from the sky he thought that maybe he was a drop of rain. His latent feelings were like the first or the last drop of rain. All his pain and fears came out as tears. This created a conflict being Takasugi a solitary man..

“I feel as if…It is both and neither at the same time. The one thing…I am sure of, Is that I’m tired…Of the rain.”

Now he didn’t know what to be, but the one thing he was sure of, was that he hated the rain. He hated all the pain that he suffered. He was revealing his state f mind. usually he is not so frank, so that’s why it came out like that.

Hello Sorachi sensei!! In the chapter 574 “path” It seems that Takasugi knew Shouyo sensei (Utsuro) true identity (?). How did he knew. Following the story one can say that Takasugi only guessed that Shouyo = Utsuro, but this only cames from him saying “ Shouyo sensei was subdued by something empty (utsuro) and now he took the resolution to destroy the rotten word he created”. This totally lack of credibility. This is really bothering me, I can’t even work anymore. Could you explain in a way that this stupid could uunderstand?

Being Takasugi a man of few words, in chapter 574 I compensate making him say only “Who knows”. He wasn’t so confident about the fact that Shouyo was Utsuro. Some seeds of doudt were probaly being born when he started to work with the joui faction only to crush the bakufu and all Shouyo’s enemies don’t you think? The information about the Bakufu and Utsuro brought by Sasaki and Nobume and all the others deepened this doubts don’t you think? And this time to make things even more clear, all the event from when he was in a coma to him weaking up, to the moment Bansai and the others came rushing, and all the situation with Makato and the others, gave his some positive proofs. This are all elements that brought him to understand in chapter 574 that Shouyo and Utsuro were related. But as he declared even upon knowing all of that nothing in him changed, he still wants to destroy the world. And in addition to that for Takasugi, Shouyo and Utsuro, are two completly different beings. The fact that Shouyo is dead isn’t changed. All the things he teached to them aren’t changed. The bakufu and Utsuro are the enemies killed Shouyo and took his shape, and there is nothing to be hesitant about, the only thing to do is to destroy them. That’s all

A second year syndrome dude that crave for an eyepatch and a kiseru- san

Happy new year. I’ve heard that in 2016 Gintama is gonna end. And that is not a good year wish! That’s not a Fukuyama loss but a gintama loss! What can i do?

Thanks for buying Gintama volume 63. Last year is been annunced on Jump that Gintama will enter in its last arc. Since then I receved a lot of letter of concern like the one above. Let me explain it, Gintama is not gonna end in 2016, but it will enter in its final arc. That means that as things are now, even I can’t predict if it will end this or next year. So usually,when a manga that are you reading is telling you that is reaching it’s climax, that means that it will take still some chapters to end, so they are just getting ready for this with this annuncement, and that is what jumps usually do. That then got some relevance of the internet too. To be honest I was quite unsure to do such of annuncement, and when we told that to former editor redneck Onishi, not only the place of the meeting became gloom for the annuncement. So there is not much to do about it, well actually, we should wait just a little longer on Sugita san head’s situation. On the internet Gintama had more news than Sugita-san’s hair affair. So before to go we have just to check his hair growt decrease. When finally the lid will be opened, only me and Be* will remain as redneck gorillas, i really wonder what will be of the others, and who will be the real redneck

(here that is a pun that is impossible to translate, yakisoba, ba in japanese grammar construntion is used to form the if, conditional sentences, so he change it with yakininarareta, that its pretty much its keigo form, in short okita is a little shit as always)

Sensei, here’s a question. There is something that I don’t understand in chapter 305 about Kada ,the commander of the fourth Harusame squad. In chapter 561, tha commander of this squad is now Syoukaku, being you the super great Sorachi sensei, I dont think that is a mistake. Thre is a good reason for that question right?

Answer
Kada was the ex commander of the fourth squad of Harusame, but she betrayed the organizzation, leaving the fourth squad without a leader. So the one that took her place it’s been Syoukaku, but seen he was chasing some personal struggle he tried to crush the organizzation and was inprosoned for that. But Utsuro having destroied the senate, set him free, and gave him the order to destroy the seventh squad. Being the Harusame just a bunch of hooligans, people that created problems were a lot, so people such Kada was really frequent.

In the Shogun assassination arc, Gintoki cuts Shouyo sensei’s head. Where was Sakamoto? When takes place the scene where he says he want to go to space? Does it happens before Shouyo’s death?

The scene under the stars with Gintoki where he say to want to go to space, happens way before Shouyo’s death. That was a thing that always bugged him. After that Sakamoto had a serious wound, and in order to heal he was took off from the front line. During this time frame, gintoki and the others had a crushing defeat in a blattle and Shouyo died. After his recovery, Sakamoto rushed to the place of the battle, but the surviving companion chased by the bakufu scattered and runned away when the war was over. Sakamoto tried to search for them but the only one he found was Gintoki, here takes place the scene where he asks him what he wants to do from now on. Gintoki says that he wants to stay on heart, and Sakamoto leaves for space.
